What is a Super Lawyer®?
Super Lawyers magazine names attorneys in each state who received the highest point totals, as chosen by their peers and through the independent research. It is a rating of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas. The selection process is multi-phased and includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations.
The objective is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource for attorneys and consumers searching for legal counsel. Since Super Lawyers is intended to be used as an aid in selecting a lawyer, ratings are limited to those who can be hired and retained by the public, i.e., lawyers in private practice and Legal Aid attorneys. What is a Super Lawyers Rising Star?
Peer nominated as a result of firsthand courtroom observation, these are the best attorneys who are 40 or under, or who have been practicing for 10 years or less. An attorney-led research team reviews the credentials of potential candidates and assigns points based on a set of defined evaluation criteria.
The lawyers with the highest point totals are named to the Rising Stars list. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are named to the list. To ensure a diverse and well-balanced list, the research staff considers factors such as firm size, practice area and geographic location.
